Local History Society in the parish of Clifton Campville

Newsletter Spring 2012

Sadly, as most of you will know, Joan Maddocks died suddenly last September and in January of this year Elizabeth Sigley also died.

They both will be greatly missed in the society, Elizabeth spent much time on the huge task of cataloguing the material collected by John Needham.

Both Elizabeth and Joan were then involved in the launch of the local history society in April 2010. Joan coordinated all future meetings and ensured all those who had attended and expressed interest, were kept informed.

We are sure both Elizabeth and Joan would want the society to move forward and the spring meeting has now been arranged. This will be on Saturday April 28th.

Martin and Margaret Browne have agreed to host a tour of  the ground floor of their beautifully restored home, the Old Rectory in Clifton Campville, and it will include their equally beautiful garden. There will also be a display of artefacts relating to the house.

There will be two tours available, one starting at 10.30am and the second at 2.00pm. Each will last for about 90 minutes and include refreshments. There will be no charge but Martin and Margaret have asked for donations for St Andrews church. These will be collected on the day. They have also suggested that this event is more suitable for adults and prefer that we do not include children under 16 in the groups.

Admission will be by ticket only with numbers limited to 30 per tour. Tickets can be reserved by telephoning Marilyn Davis on 01827 373298
